In the presence of HSH Princess Charlene, the “Riviera Water Bike Challenge” gala dinner took place on Saturday 14 April 2018 at the Yacht Club de Monaco.
HSH Princess Charlene declared: « The first edition of the Riviera Water Bike Challenge in 2017 was a great success. The 2018 edition promises to be equally successful.
Thanks to all fundraising, the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, with the collaboration of Monaco and Burkina Faso Red Cross, has built the much needed aquatic center in Loumbila in Burkina Faso and we are now in position to start to train water safety and swimming instructors.
Since I launched my Foundation in 2012, we have reached over 500.000 people in 33 countries at the end of 2017, teaching them to swim, to learn essential water safety skills and to appreciate the values of sport that are so dear to me.
Thanks to your generosity, all the fundraising will allow to finance the projects followed by my Foundation and that are dear to my heart.”
Among the athletes who attended the gala dinner, we can name Mr. Alexandre Bilodeau, two-time Olympic champion in freestyle skiing and Ambassador of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation; Mr. Kevin Crovetto, gymnast; Mr. Alexandre Despatie, two-time Olympic medallist and three-time World Champion diver; Mr. Pierre Frolla, four-time world record holder in free diving and Ambassador of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation; Mr. Ryk Neethling, three-time World Champion, Olympic gold medallist swimmer, Ambassador of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and CEO of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation South Africa; Mr. Luciano Orquera, former Italian international rugby player; Mr. François Pienaar, rugby World Champion with the Springboks, trustee of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation South Africa and advisor of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation; Mr. Simon Shaw, English rugby World Champion.
The evening was presented by the master of ceremonies Eddy Jordan and animated by Les Garçons Chics, White Cats, MC Performers and the violinist Ms. Stéphanie Valentin.
Close to 1 million euros has been raised thanks to this evening.
The second edition of the Riviera Water Bike Challenge will take place on Sunday 17 June 2018. Mixed teams of professional athletes and amateurs will compete on Schiller S1-C water bikes in a relay race covering a 21 km loop in front of the sun terrace on Monaco harbor’s sea wall.
